Traditional divination (using stalks)

This method considerably differs from the others on technics of reception of features of hexagram. Possibly it will seem to too long and difficult fans of a guessing - entertainments, but it will be demanded by the true judges of the Canon concentrated, thoughtful and purposeful.

In the initial texts containing the description of technics of a guessing under the Book of Changes stalks of a yarrow are specified, but they can be replaced by any suitable objects: from bamboo sticks up to pencils and matches. For carrying out of ritual 50 subjects is required. Stalks (we shall use this word) give all the best a bunch on a table. And then that also begins action...

One stalk at once is postponed aside and in a guessing more does not participate. The remained 49 stalks both hands need to be divided into two bunches.
The left bunch should be clamped in the left hand, and from right the right hand to take one stalk and to place it between a little finger and a ring finger of the left hand.
Then to take out the right hand from the left bunch on four stalks. Remained (from 1 up to 4) stalks need to be placed between a ring finger and a middle finger of the left hand.
Counted on four stalks the right hand come back on the left. The right hand to take the right bunch and now the left hand to take from it on four stalks.
The rest (from 1 up to 4 stalks) to place between a middle finger and an index finger of the left hand.
In total between fingers of the left hand it can appear five or nine stalks in combinations: 1+1+3, 1+2+2, 1+3+1, 1+4+4.
To postpone them aside, and all the remained stalks both hands again to connect in one bunch and to repeat with it the above described operation named by "Derivation".
In its result between fingers of the left hand there are 4 or 8 stalks in combinations: 1+1+2, 1+2+1, 1+3+4, 1+4+3.
Further to postpone them and to lead precisely same third derivation as a result of which between fingers of the left hand the same combinations of stalks are formed, as in the second derivation.

After end of three changes the remained bunch can consist of 36, 32, 28 or 24 stalks. The specified sums at division on 4 give accordingly number 9, 8, 7, 6 which correspond to following features of hexagrams:

For reception of following features it is necessary to make even on three derivations for each feature. All thus will be made 18 derivations for construction of hexagram.

If at the received hexagram there will be "old" features to consider follows two hexagrams. The first - turns out if to not consider "old age" fig. It shows a current condition of events and the basic is. The second turns out if to consider "old" features "looking younger" up to opposite (it is shown below) and designates dynamics (development) of a situation. At reception of initial interpretation the "looked younger" features specify what aphorisms it is necessary to pay attention. In other methods of reception of interpretation the second hexagram shows prospective development of a current situation.

To find the hexagram in the table, mentally divide its (hexagram) on two parts: top and a bottom. On crossing of these figures you also will find number of the hexagram.
You need to read through only interpretation of your symbol and to consider advice "Book of Changes":
  • Even if the answer of "Book" also does not reflect your expectations it is not necessary to be upset. In fact in a guessing, as well as in a real life, is not only the light sides. A guessing - only reflection of a life. And after a black strip - will always come white.
  • Especially it is not necessary to panic, if to you very bad hexagram (3, 29, 39, 47) has dropped out. The book in fact does not predict, and warns... Accept its advice, consider a situation - and it will appear as the most dark night is not too awful!
  • And in any case - there is more than optimism and under any conditions do not lose good mood!
